Ways to Save Energy and Water

These days many of us, plumbers included, are looking for ways to save on energy and water bills. Try as you might, it will be difficult to manage when most people don’t know that their water heater takes up %17  of their home’s energy. That is more than all of your other appliances combined. Today, IRC Plumbing is offering these tips and tricks we found  to lower the energy and water consumption of your water heater.Lucien Rizio - IRC Plumbing Vero Beach Water Heater Repair

Text is from Daily , Home & Garden:

“Modify the temperature

Modifying the temperature on your hot water heater is quick and easy to do. According to the Department of Energy setting your hot water heater at 120 or lower can help you save more than $60 a year on your utility bill. You can also turn off your water heater if you are away on vacation to conserve energy.

Add Insulation

Most new hot water heaters are insulated. If you have an older water heater, consider adding an insulation blanket to help reduce heat loss. If your tank feels warm to the touch, this could be an easy and cost effective addition.

Check for leaks

Do a quick check of your sinks, showers, toilets and the hoses outside. Make sure your washers and gaskets are tight. The most common cause of a leaking toilet is often the inexpensive, rubber flapper. Check for wear and replace if needed. Remember plumbers have professional grade products that often last longer than store bought parts.

Consider upgrades

Consider water saving and energy efficient upgrades. Many new faucets, shower heads and toilets are low flow or have water conservation features. These are easy to upgrade on your own or with the help of a professional plumber. There are also new energy efficient options for water heaters.

For more information on ways to save water and energy with your plumbing, go toenergy.gov/articles/askenergysaver-home-water-heating.”

The only exception to these hints is this. Here in Florida, it may be better to leave the water at 125 degrees. We are happy to meet with you and check out your water heater and offer you options.

Laundry Rooms!!

Until about 10 years ago it seemed that laundry rooms were not something to waste interior space on. In fact, most of the homes in Florida sent us out to our garage, or to the space between the garage and kitchen to do our laundry. The high end homes began to understand that doing laundry in a hot garage in the summer, which, here in Florida seems to last until November some years, is NOT a selling feature. So they moved the laundry room into the home. Where the laundry person, usually Mom, could be more comfortable.

Now laundry rooms are truly becoming a room that has style and function. Before you build your new dream home, or remodel your existing home, and for that fact, for some of the new offices being constructed now, take a look at HOUZZ, and see what can be done with that shabby old place that used to be in the garage!!

State of the art washer and dryer which use less water and power, a great sink for handwashing, and a place to hang up clothes and you take them out of the dryer. Plus storage for cleaning items and bulk items that aren’t used very often.

New Construction & Plumbing

IRC Plumbing is growing, and so are Indian River and Brevard Counties!

We have been getting more calls for remodels lately, and now we are getting plenty of calls from people building homes, offices and commercial buildings. Let’s face it, working on plumbing is what we do, and we will always be happy to do it. But some of the most fun we have is planning and installing brand new kitchens, bathrooms, break rooms, pot fillers and all the plumbing that no one sees once the walls are up!

The best time for us to work on those types of projects is before any building ever begins. It pays to have experienced plumber work on the plans with you right from the start. Something that may look good on paper could be difficult, or even expensive to install. We won’t talk you out of things you want, but we will help you to optimize your plumbing installation while still getting the look and feel you want.

It is also important to define the look you are going for and planning properly for the function behind the great look. Some of the more European looking fixtures can be stunning, but they might require a different method of installation.

Dream Bathroom

We recently put up a post about what goes on behind the walls of a beautiful, dream bathroom. Today we are going to show you another dream bathroom, but we will let you see the finished product this time. From Melbourne, to Sebastian and Vero, we fix broken bathrooms, spiff up older baths, and build dream bathrooms for people who finally get that dream house.

Recently IRC Plumbing completed work on a bathroom in Sebastian. It was a remodel, and they were creating a new master suite. The catch, this dream bathroom is on the THIRD floor.  Nothing like putting a 600 pound tub on the third story of a remodel. There was no master bath here a couple weeks ago and upgraded the hall bath. What a beautiful job with a gorgeous view. Another great job with Tozzolo Brothers Construction.

Leak Detection

leak detection IRC plumbing, Sebastian Florida

We talked about having an undetected water leak in your home, and how we can find it quickly using our leak detection device, but what can you do yourself to detect a leak?

  1. If you suspect a leak, the first thing to do is shut off all your faucets, showers, the water valve leading to your washer, and your toilets and check to see if your meter continues to run.
  2.  If you have a well on your property, check to see if it is running constantly.
  3. If you don’t have water gushing into your house, send someone outside to where your meter is located. Flush the toilets one at a time, wait until the tank fills back up, then check to see if the meter is still running.
  4. If water is pouring out, locate the main water shut off for your home and shut that off and call us.

Because water doesn’t always puddle at the source of a leak, if your leak is not one you can find quickly using any of the above methods, IRC plumbing has Leak Detection Equipment which takes the guess work out of finding leaks.

We have been in the plumbing business here in Indian River County for enough years that we can tell where some of the more common sources of leaks will be, but sometimes leaks are sneaky and they occur in less obvious areas. The most difficult leaks to pinpoint can be leaks in your slab. That is why we have made the investment in Leak Detector.

Leak detectors use sound to detect where a leak is coming from. It is actually more complex than that, but you don’t need the details, you just need to know that we know how to read the information that comes from our Leak Detection Equipment in order to diagnose and ultimately repair whatever leaks are causing you problems.

Plumbing in Days Past

Lucien Rizio, Vero Beach PlumberYou might say to us, Vanessa and Lucien, plumbing is plumbing, people need to clean their dishes, their bodies, wash their clothes. Water needs to come into the house, and then, when people are done with their cleaning, the water must go out. For thousands of years there has been plumbing of one sort or another, so what is the big deal? Maybe there isn’t any one big deal, but the good news about  plumbing, as we know it today, is it is  safer than it has ever been.Continue Reading

Turning a Regular Office Into a Doctor’s Office

IRC Plumbing isn’t magic, but sometimes it seems like we are. We take a plain old, vanilla office building and with some piping, a few sinks and faucets, presto! We have a great suite of fully plumbed exam rooms for  a local Physician here in Sebastian at 512 Commerce Center .

Commerce Center has offices of varying sizes, which is for the most part not designed for any specific type of industry, which makes them fully customizable. The buildings  are well constructed and working there is a pleasure. In fact, we are now thinking about moving in there ourselves.

For this particular project, IRC Plumbing added four exam room sinks with on demand water heaters.  In this instance, there was no existing plumbing for us to either remove, or work around. That’s the easy part. The more difficult part was Lucien  had to run all drain and water lines. Another beautiful job.

If you need new plumbing, repairs on existing plumbing or you are preparing to move to a space at 512 Commerce Center, give us a call @772/697/3747.

Have a great day!! 😉
